Me, my Mom, and the kids went to see Poppa yesterday. We took some pictures, but unfortunately we are all sick or on the end of sickness, and none of us were photogenic. Hopefully, those pictures will never see the light of day. Poppa is my paternal grandfather, and he has always been special to me. He's pretty far away now, though. His mind is very confused. He's worried about a lot of things that aren't real. He's always happy to see us, though, and the kids can get a smile out of him.
Then we went to lunch, ran an errand for Mom, and went to the thrift store. The thrift store is a real treat for all of us. The kids know that they can pick out a toy, and we usually find toys for ourselves, too. For me the most important thing is finding clothes for my older two kids. I try to get the ones that are 50-75% off and I usually get t-shirts and shorts for 50 cents or a quarter. Yesterday, though, I found a beautiful dress for Olivia for $1.99. It's is black velvet with a turquoise patterned silk panel. There was a long tear in the top panel that Lee's grandmother is sewing snaps onto. Nana paid for the dress and Nan is fixing it - that is family for you. I will post a picture of it when it is done. We also got a nice play romper for her for 99 cents. Elijah got two really nice t-shirts, one for fifty cents and one for $1.00. The $1.00 one was a brand new Superman shirt that I really liked. We also got a pair of white sneakers in very good shape for Olivia for 99 cents. For Julius, we got three pair of gerber training pants - hoping to potty train him this summer so I can have two in diapers for a very short time.
As for me, I got a brand new set of cups for my Magic Bullet - four cups with rings at 30 cents apiece. That just made my day. I am going to do breakfast smoothies every day during the summer as part of my postpartum weight loss plan, and having all new cups completely rejuvenates my Magic Bullet. Yay!
We got a big bag of size three clothes from Aunt Jackie this week. Those will be put up for Julius for next year - hopefully he will be wearing hand me downs from his cousins for a LONG time and then passing them down to Gabe, so I will only have to buy clothes for the older two. And if I can keep getting them such good deals at the thrift store, we will be dressing cheaply (and stylishly!) for years! I can't wait to post a picture of Olivia's dress.
