A Boy, Due in May, Not April

Here are his lovely shots. Isn't he a handsome man? He measured to be due around May 4th, which is only one day off from the measurements in my early ultrasound at the pregnancy clinic. But when I talked to the midwife at my OBGYN, she was calling me April 28th. Why?

And why are my children always late?

The answer is so obvious now that it makes me laugh. When doctor's calculate a due date, they base it off your cycle. They have a cute little circle thingy. I'm sure there's a formula for it to adjust for longer cycles, but doctor's never take it seriously when I tell them I have a longer cycle - up to 42 days. I did some math today. Elijah's due date was supposed to be January 27, 2003. He was considered 2 weeks late and induced on February 8th. When I recalculated a due date based on a 42 day cycle, I got a due date of February 10th. So maybe if we had waited another week, he would have come on his own. Olivia was induced, too. I bet if I did the math again, it would be the same story.

I don't want to be induced this time - it's annoying. Now I have a good reason not to be.

Anyway, yes, its a boy. At first we weren't going to br able to find out, but she kept chasing him around in between vital measurements, and eventually she found "it". I have a picture but I shan't post that one. His name will most likely be Julius, though Lee is not 100% sure yet, and it totally up in the air about the middle name. Because he is a little younger that the midwife thought, there were a few measurements they couldn't get yet, so I'll have to go in again. That's all right. I won't make Lee go with this time. They'll double check the gender - you just never know with these things.

p.s. I am very grateful to You Know Who for a healthy baby boy. Actually, I'm disgustingly insanely happy. But anyway...
